THE EVOLUTION CONTINUES.
Grid–tied solar: Lower priced photovoltaics, the panels that convert sunlight to electricity, have reduced the time it takes to recoup through energy savings the initial investment in solar energy systems. Grid–tied systems connect to the conventional power utility grid, so solar panels can actually make the electric meter run backwards — essentially selling any unused power back to Pacific Power. Then, at night or other times when power needs exceed the amount of electricity generated by solar panels, homes take electricity off the power grid. With Central Oregon's consistently sunny weather, the grid–tied solar–electric systems Abacus installs will earn their keep for life.
Forest Stewardship Council Certified Lumber: Homebuilding with traditional "stick frame" construction can be both sustainable and cost effective. Wood products certified by FSC are guaranteed to originate from certified well–managed forests, which are monitored by certifiers over a period of years. As consumers increasingly demand FSC–certified products, more forest owners and managers — as well as major lumber retailers — have recognized the many benefits of participating in the certification program.
